Every Member a Minister

At the Rock Church, we want to equip every member to be a minister, living out the truths of Scripture in our everyday lives. This is why we provide many opportunities for people to get involved and to put into practice the things they learn.

Below are six important steps in making the Rock your home church.

1. Be Saved

This is the first step to growth. It means that you recognize that you are a sinner, which separates you from God and the life He has for you. In order for you to become right with Him, God sent his own son, Jesus Christ, to fill the gap by dying on the cross as a sacrifice for your sin. The Bible promises salvation and a new life to all who believe in Jesus and repent from their sin.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me." John 14:6

2. Be Baptized

Baptism is a way for you to demonstrate the new life you have in Christ Jesus. Because following Christ is a journey, it is important to make a public declaration of your commitment to Him so that people can encourage you along the way. This public declaration is much like the act of a church wedding in which the congregation is asked to support the couple in their new marriage. The Rock offers baptisms in every season of the year. To find out upcoming dates, see the Event Calendar.

And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name. Acts 22:16

For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. Galatians 3:27

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15

So in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach. Romans 12:5-7

4. Join A Small Group

The Rock is a church made of small groups. A small group is a Bible study where 6-15 people pray, worship, and study God's Word together. Strong friendships formed in small groups can support and encourage you on a deeper level. It is easy to get lost in a church as big as ours, so small groups are a place to be personally known, encouraged and challenged. Click here for more information about small groups.

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. 1 Thessalonians 5:11

Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. Ecclesiastes 4:12

5. Determine Your Spiritual Gifts

God has created everybody with unique traits, talents and purpose. It's important to know the skills and passions God has given you so that you can use them to accomplish His will in your life. To find out your gifts, take the Spiritual Gifts Test.

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11

As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 1 Peter 4:10

6. Serve in Ministry

Ministry is at the heart of our church. We want be involved as God impacts our city and our nation. There are many different types of ministry at the Rock Church, including core ministries (such as Women's and High School), Sunday ministries (that take place mainly during Sunday services), Equipping ministries (meant to further equip the church body to live more like Christ), and Outreach ministries (meant to further extend the good news of Christ). Click here for more information about our ministries.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Matthew 28:19

Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, "If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all." Mark 9:35

A Servant of All
The Rock applauds your decision to grow as a Christian. Remember as you continue to grow closer to Jesus that he came not to be served, but to serve others. In Mark 9:35, Jesus says, "If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all." Allow God to make this the desire of your heart.
