MObedience MOmentum - Part 2, the Ten Commandments

This week we continued our journey into the 5th book of the Bible, Deuteronomy.

As you probably know, this is the book of the Bible that sets down the Ten Commandments which, Pastor Miles points out, are the basis for all the laws of the Bible and shows us as Christians how to live a Godly life.

Although our salvation is unconditional, His blessing requires Mo'bedience (more obedience).

Miles taught us that the first four commandments address our relationship with God, while the next six commandments instruct us on our relationships with other people. They are written in Deuteronomy 6:4-5.

Here are the first four Commandments paraphrased:

Miles expanded on Commandment III, saying that taking God's name in vain goes way beyond a curse word and that we need to remember that anything bad or evil we say; because we are Christians, could be taking God's name in vain as we are his representatives.

Here are the next six commandments paraphrased:

Miles again expanded on some of these commandments. Not committing adultery includes all sexual immoralities. Not stealing isn't just limited to things either. We shouldn't steal such things as peoples' time, dreams, or hope.

Living out the Ten Commandments

Miles went on to show us that Mo'bedience comes when the Word is part of our everyday discussions.

Deuteronomy 6:7-9 tells us that we should teach these words and discuss them every waking moment and that we should nail them to door frames throughout our houses, meaning that we should always have these Words in our hearts and in our homes.

Mo'bedience comes when we commit our thoughts and deeds to the Word. It isn't just enough to say and know these words, but in order to please our Creator we have to act on them.

Finally, Mo'bedience happens when you commit your entire life to the Word.

The question that Miles presented us with was this: how are we going to be more obedient to God this week? He even suggested that we write down our goals for obedience, and then to see how we are blessed by God as a result.
