MObedience MOmentum - Part 3, Sin No Mo!

Today we continue our study of Deuteronomy with Part 3 of a four-part series titled Mobedience Momentum.

This week we're reminded, as the Israelites were countless times, to check our hearts, repent, and get back on the right path, a path that starts with hiding God's Word in our hearts.

Remember your sinful heart. Deuteronomy 9:6-7

The following is a listing of what some of the people did, in direct disobedience to God:

1. Horeb: They tried to replace God with an idol. Deuteronomy 9:8
2. Taberah: They complained because of discomfort in their life. Deuteronomy 9:22
3. Massah: They complained because they lacked water. Deuteronomy 9:22
4. Kibroth Hattaavah: They complained because they lacked meat. Deuteronomy 9:22
5. Kadesh: They did not trust that God would protect them. Deuteronomy 9:23
6. Korah: They did not trust that God's leader could lead them. Deuteronomy 11:6

Obedience to God is not natural, it is spiritual. Our fallen nature makes us think that obedience is an option in the Kingdom of God. But, to live the real, fulfilling, unmistakable life-in-the-spirit we are called to live in obedience to the one who is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Our memory is the bona fide, iron clad option we are given to exercise power over ourselves. Remembering that we are sinful can help us make great strides toward total dependence, and therefore obedience, to God. Plus, the amazing thing about God, is that as we strive to remember - in His name - He will help us remember correctly.

Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out. Romans 12:2

Therefore, circumcise your heart. Deuteronomy 10:16

A few thoughts on Circumcision:

• Circumcision means "cutting around."
• Circumcision of the flesh happened on the eighth day. Genesis 17:11
• Circumcision of the heart due to the eighth day resurrection. Luke 24:1-7
• Heart circumcision makes one a Jew. Romans 2:28-29

Going to church, singing songs, taking communion, even getting baptized can all be looked at as being a Christian. But, the outward actions are only outward actions when our hearts have not been circumcised unto the Lord.

Many people in church are simply a part of the local church "club." Their church is where they volunteer their time.

But, being a Christian is about intending to be more than an attender. It is a calling on our lives to be willing servants of God in all aspects of our lives - inside of a church building, and outside; at home, at work, etc.

Treasure the Word in your heart and Mo'bey them. Deuteronomy 11:18

I have hidden Your Word in my heart that I might not sin against You. Psalm 119:11

When we fill our minds and hearts with the truth of the Bible, something amazing happens, those words change. They change into the living, breathing WORD of God.

Our understanding goes beyond the word on the page and fills our hearts with Truth, the living truth of the living God! It is with that truth that we are then emboldened to take our eyes off our sinful appetites and place them directly on the real, living and active Son of God. He, Jesus Christ, will show us that obedience isn't about doing the "right" thing.

Obedience will become the only thing we want to do, because that is how we will find life - the one, true life that we want.
