Rebuild On The Rock - Part 1

This weekend Pastor Miles McPherson gave us a recap of the events of the past week as various fires affected Southern California.

James 2:14-17 states, What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and filled," without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead."

God's Provision

Pastor Miles shared how the Rock congregation really showed their heart and passion in the volunteers that showed up when the Rock opened its doors as an evacuation center for everyone who was displaced from their home.

At the beginning of the week when the Rock decided to open its doors there was nothing to offer but the building itself.

That all changed in a matter of hours and continued on for days as donations and volunteers rolled in by the truckload.

God completely provided!

Pray for the Firefighters

Battalion Chief Mike Fiero shared his experiences fighting fires over the past week.

He shared with the Rock Church three ways in which we can pray for the firefighters...

1. We can pray for the firefighters protection that are still out fighting fires.
2. We can pray for their health especially with all the smoke inhalation
3. We can pray for the firefighters' families.

A Refuge for the Elderly

The Rock was able to open its doors to 118 elderly people who were displaced from their convalescent home. Elderly people are especially affected by the harsh conditions of the air.

There were hot meals, a place to rest that was cool, and full of people who love the Lord, and loved on all the evacuees who came through the door.

One man was especially grateful to be able to catch the first game of the World Series on the big screen.

Rebuilding on the Rock

There are certain times in your life when you have the opportunity to do something amazing and when you pass that opportunity up, you will regret it!

Overall 344 evacuees were able to stay at the Rock.

Pastor Miles said that this past week was the most satisfying week of ministry he has experienced in his life. The Rock stepped up and did what God called them to do. This is what Christianity is about. It is asking God, "How can you use me, to help somebody else?

You never know what the future holds. There is always a possibility for catastrophic events to happen. We need to be prepared and ready to answer the call of God.
