Lay Counseling

What is Lay Counseling?

The Rock Church Lay Counseling Ministry is designed to provide encouragement, insight and biblical guidance to members during times of crisis, change, personal and family difficulties.

The lay counselor will listen, clarify, and offer hope, encouragement, prayer and sound Biblical advice. The lay counselor's goal is to help the counselee resolve the challenges he or she is having.

What Lay Counseling is NOT:

Lay counseling is not mental heath care and should not be substituted for professional therapy or counseling if you are already under the care of a paid professional counselor. We do not perform psychiatric evaluations nor do we prescribe medication.

Our lay counselors are well trained to address many situations and life challenges, but there are some counseling situations that are beyond our training. When this is the case, professional counseling will be recommended.

If you would more information or make an appointment please complete the counseling request form or contact Carletta Vicain at 619.226.7625 x 5119

Want to Be a Lay Counselor?

We are always looking for individuals with the love and heart of Christ who desire to help others. This ministry is not for the faint at heart. The process involves interviews and a lengthy training. The training is offered once a year in the fall and is about 18 weeks long. There are informational meetings through out the year and you can always contact us to gain more information.

While you are waiting for an info meeting or the training, you can prepare yourself for the ministry by attending Boot Camp, getting involved in a small group or other activity that will allow you to grow spiritually and personally. For more information please contact. Carletta Vicain at 619.764.5119, or e-mail her at carletta.vicain@therocksandiego.org.
