Testimonials From Homeless People

 I asked the homeless whether the people from the Rock Church Homeless Ministry make a difference to them – these are their responses:

April 2008 Daniel:  When I was released from prison, I knew no-one. I had no money and no job so I was on the streets. The people from the rock church treated me like family! I think I would seek the Lord on my own anyway, but the people from the rock make it so easy! I do not associate with anyone who does not walk with Jesus anymore.  For me, it has been over 14 months that I am free of drugs and alcohol!  I just started a job and with God’s grace I will be off the streets soon. I thank God and praise Him above all.

April 2008  Bruce:  I am homeless because I am waiting for my disability money to kick in. I do have a daughter and she wants me to stay with her, but she is a single mom with 4 kids and I do not want to be a burden to her. I rather am here on the streets. You guys from the Rock are so needed here! Not only do you bring us food, but you actually take the time to talk to us and pray with us. Prayer is so needed here. When you guys are here, the atmosphere changes! Even after you leave, you leave love behind. Yes, you make a big difference – keep on  coming!

April 2008   Nick:  I am homeless because God brought me here. I have to obey His wishes! I am writing a journal every day. I have a friend from the Rock church and she is typing it all for me. I am His humble servant. The people from the Rock make a difference oh yes. You bring God to us! I can see God’s love when I look into your eyes! God is here with us right now and yes, please write about me, write about this! Not me, write about God – He is the one everyone needs to know.  

Nick also composed a poem that he allowed me to publish here:

Because of you
The fear went away
It wasn't so scary
I could handle this day.

Because of you
It's quite easy to see
Since you took time to care
You loved me instantly.

Because of you
I learned what went wrong
And because of that knowledge
I've learned to be strong.

And Because of you,
I have what was missing
As strong sense of self
Because someone was listening
